December 24 - By Matt
Christmas is a fun time full of presents and happiness. We get to be with our family and have a lot of fun. But we need to remember what Christmas is all about, Jesus. Every Christmas, we remember once more the birthday of Jesus, the Savior that God promised so long ago. He saved us from our sins by dying on the cross, defeating the devil, and rising into heaven. He then came back to earth and talked with his disciples and told them to spread the good news. He is a great God, who was willing to die so that we can live. “When he had led them out to the vicinity of Bethany, he lifted up his hands and blessed them. While he was blessing them, he left them and was taken up into heaven. Then they worshiped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy. And they stayed continually at the temple, praising God.” Luke 24:50
We can spread that news too. We can witness to other by words and actions. What an awesome present God gave us that first Christmas night.
Dear God, thank you for caring about me so much, that you sent your son to earth in the form of a baby. Thank you also for suffering and dying for us. Amen

The Easter cross is a symbol of Jesus’s resurrection from the dead. It is a wonderful thing because it represents God’s victory over sin, death, and the devil. It can be both sad and happy. It is sad because it reminds us of Jesus’s death on the cross. It was a grueling process and Jesus was buried and descended into hell. But Jesus was willing to do that for us.
It is happy because it shows our victory over sin. We know today that even though we are but dust in his eyes because of sin. We can live and reign in heaven forever! Jesus himself proclaims in John 11:25 “I am the resurrection and the life.”
The wait is almost over, Christmas is almost here. Thank God for Christmas, but also thank God that Easter is on the way too!

Candle
“They came back to Nazareth where Joseph was a carpenter and Jesus grew up to manhood.”
Have you ever seen a candlein a dark room? It shines brightly, giving light to that room. The room is the world, pitch black with sin and Jesus is the candle. He showed everyone the way in a dark world of sin. He was “the light of the world” (John 1:8) and a “candle in the dark.” He taught about heaven, performed miracles, and He ignited the cold, dormant candles in many people’s hearts, bringing thousands to belief. He taught the love of God and was a shining example of the savior that we needed. He was the one and only perfect person in a dark world of sin.
Let Jesus ignite your heart in the few days remaining before Christmas!
Dear God, please help me not to stray away from Jesus’s light. Help to guide my life and keep me away from the path sin. Please help me to be a candle to all the people in my life. Amen.

After Herod was dead, God told Mary and Joseph that they could now return to their home.
When Herod died Mary and Joseph both had a dream. The dream was of an angel, telling them that Herod was dead and it was safe to return to their real home. It was now safe for the family to travel and live back in their old home, without anyone trying to kill Jesus. They had travelled to Bethlehem, to Egypt and now back home again.
It was only a dream, and they were not sure if they should go back but they had to trust in God. They had very strong faith and decided to trust the dream. Just like their trust, we too must have the same trust in God. We must trust with all of our hearts that God will always take care of us and know what is best for us. Just like it says in Psalm 25:1-3 1 To you, O LORD, I lift up my soul; 2 in you I trust, O my God. Do not let me be put to shame, nor let my enemies triumph over me. 3 No one whose hope is in you will ever be put to shame, but they will be put to shame who are treacherous without excuse.
God loves us so much, He always has and always will.
Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you for loving us so much, and Sending Jesus to us. Please help us to trust in you in all situations.
Amen.

Later Mary and Joseph had to take the baby Jesus to Egypt because the evil King Herod wanted to kill him.
After King Herod heard that the new king was born, he was scared that baby Jesus was going to overthrow him and take over his position. After his first plan to find out where Jesus was failed, the king ordered every two year old child or younger to be killed, hoping that he would kill Jesus in this process. However, God knew Herod’s plan, and ordered Mary and Joseph to go to Egypt. There they kept Jesus safe so he was not killed by King Herod’s soldiers.
Think about how scared Mary and Joseph must have been to find out that the King, their leader, was searching for their child to kill him. But God knew what to do. Sending Mary and Joseph to Egypt saved Jesus and his parents. We get scared sometimes too. We should follow Joseph and Mary’s example of trusting God to always be with us.
Isaiah41:10 Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
Dear Lord, thank you for protecting Jesus during that scary time after his birth. Please help us to listen to you when you tell us to do something or to go somewhere. Amen.
